Privacy Policy
BlackBoxRecorder · Effective date: June 2, 2026
Life Like operates the BlackBoxRecorder mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains information handling, usage, and user choices.
By using BlackBoxRecorder, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
The App is provided “as is” and “as available.” Users acknowledge that audio capture, background operation, storage, archive generation, export, sharing, and recovery can fail due to device conditions, operating system restrictions, permission changes, low storage, crashes, corruption, third-party platform issues, or network and billing outages.
Download availability does not guarantee that recording, monitoring, exporting, sharing, storing, retaining, or disclosing audio is lawful in your location or jurisdiction. Users are solely responsible for determining lawfulness before use.
1. What BlackBoxRecorder Does
BlackBoxRecorder is a privacy-focused audio recording application recording microphone audio only after explicit user initiation and permission granting. Recordings store locally on the device in app-specific storage. The App does not secretly record, suppress recording notifications, or upload recordings to Life Like servers. Recordings leave app-private storage only through manual export/sharing or optional Premium cloud archive backup saving ZIP archives into user-chosen cloud-backed folders.
2. Safety and Use Limitations
BlackBoxRecorder may help users maintain private day-to-day audio records but is not an emergency service, safety system, security service, legal evidence system, law-enforcement tool, medical tool, compliance tool, lawful-recording assurance tool, or guaranteed witness record.
Users must not rely on BlackBoxRecorder as their sole safety measure, sole backup, sole record of critical events, sole emergency plan, or sole means of preserving conversations or evidence. For events, conversations, or recordings materially affecting safety, legal rights, business operations, health, or finances, users are responsible for using additional safeguards and independent records.
BlackBoxRecorder does not determine whether recording is permitted in users’ jurisdictions, does not obtain consent, and does not monitor compliance with local law, workplace rules, contractual restrictions, property rules, or platform policies.
3. Local Law Compliance
Users are solely responsible for determining whether it is lawful to start recording, continue recording, monitor, store, retain, review, export, share, transmit, disclose, or otherwise use audio captured by BlackBoxRecorder.
Before using the App, users must determine whether any law, regulation, court rule, employment policy, school rule, professional rule, contract, confidentiality duty, venue rule, or other restriction requires consent, notice, signage, prior authorization, or prohibits recording entirely.
4. Travel and Cross-Border Use
Legal responsibilities apply not only where users live but also in any country, state, province, territory, district, municipality, or other jurisdiction where users travel, transit, relocate, work, study, visit, or record.
Users crossing borders or using the App while traveling are solely responsible for checking applicable laws and restrictions in each place where recording occurs, where recorded persons are located, and where audio is later stored, played back, exported, shared, or disclosed.
5. No Legal Advice or Compliance Representation
Nothing in BlackBoxRecorder, this Privacy Policy, or related documentation constitutes legal advice. Life Like does not provide legal, regulatory, compliance, employment, immigration, travel, or professional advice through the App or policy.
Life Like does not represent, warrant, or promise that BlackBoxRecorder use is lawful, appropriate, or compliant in any jurisdiction or under any specific law, regulation, policy, contract, confidentiality obligation, or venue rule.
6. Information We Handle
BlackBoxRecorder may handle the following information categories:
- Microphone audio recordings: The App records audio only after explicit user initiation and microphone permission granting. Audio recordings store locally on devices in the App’s private storage area. Recordings automatically organize into daily folders and local archive files for easier management.
- App permissions: The App requests microphone access for audio recording. On supported platforms, the App may request notification permission for recording or recovery alerts.
- Subscription and purchase information: Paid subscription purchases are processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store, not Life Like directly. The App may read platform-provided subscription status to enable paid features.
- Export and sharing actions: Users manually exporting or sharing archives make selected archive files available through device sharing or document export flows based on explicit user action.
- Optional cloud archive backup: If users enable Premium cloud archive backup, completed ZIP archives may be copied into user-chosen folders through iOS Files or Android folder picker flows. On Android, users may choose direct Google Drive or OneDrive backup when account connection is available. Cloud syncing is handled by selected providers, not Life Like.
7. What We Do Not Do
BlackBoxRecorder is designed to minimize data handling. Life Like does not:
- upload recordings to servers
- sync recordings to cloud folders unless users enable that option
- remotely access audio files
- start recording without explicit user action
- hide or suppress the ongoing recording notification
8. How Recordings Are Stored
Recordings store locally in app-specific storage on devices. After day completion, the App may compress that day’s recordings into local archive files stored on the same device. Raw recordings may be removed after verified archive creation. Archived recordings remain on devices until users delete them, export them, or remove the App. If users enable Premium cloud archive backup, completed ZIP archive copies may also save to their selected cloud-backed folder.
9. How We Use Information
Life Like uses limited handled information only to:
- record audio when users instruct the App to do so
- store and organize recordings locally on devices
- enable playback, archive export, and archive sharing when users request those actions
- save completed ZIP archives into users’ selected cloud-backed Files folders if Premium cloud archive backup is enabled
- determine whether paid features should be available based on platform store subscription status
10. Sharing of Information
Life Like does not sell, rent, or share personal information or recordings with third parties.
Recordings are only shared if users explicitly choose to export or share archives using device built-in sharing or document features, or if users enable Premium cloud archive backup to copy completed ZIP archives into their chosen folders.
Subscription purchases are handled by Google Play or the Apple App Store and are subject to those platforms’ own terms and privacy practices.
11. Data Retention
Audio recordings and archives store on devices. The App may automatically manage raw recordings after verified archive creation. Archive availability may depend on selected plans or App settings. Locally stored archives remain on devices until users delete them, the App’s storage-management rules remove them, or the App is uninstalled. Cloud-backed copies remain subject to selected providers’ storage, sync, retention, and deletion behavior.
12. Security
BlackBoxRecorder uses app-private storage and system permission controls to protect local recordings. Optional library protection may require biometric authentication or device credentials before opening recordings within the App. However, no system can guarantee absolute security, and users are responsible for maintaining device security.
13. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Life Like disclaims all warranties, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, availability, reliability, and data preservation.
Life Like does not guarantee uninterrupted operation, recording continuity, storage durability, archive integrity, export success, playback availability, recovery after restart, compatibility with every device or Android version, or that the App will capture, preserve, or reproduce every event, word, or conversation.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, users assume all legal responsibility and legal risk arising from BlackBoxRecorder use, including responsibility for determining whether recording, monitoring, consent, notice, storage, retention, export, sharing, disclosure, or any later recorded material use is lawful.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Life Like will not be liable for missed recordings, incomplete recordings, corrupted files, lost data, deleted archives, permission loss, device failure, low-storage conditions, operating system restrictions, account or billing issues, third-party platform failures, or any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from or related to App use, inability to use, or reliance on the App.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Life Like will not be liable for fines, penalties, prosecutions, regulatory action, governmental investigation, civil claims, criminal allegations, injunctions, employment consequences, professional discipline, evidentiary exclusion, immigration or travel consequences, or any dispute, cost, damage, or loss arising from unlawful, unauthorized, or non-compliant recording or related App use.
14. User Responsibilities
Users are responsible for:
- using the App lawfully and determining whether recording is permitted before recording or continuing to record
- obtaining all consents, notices, approvals, authorizations, and permissions required by law or policy
- ensuring they have any permission required from recorded persons, employers, clients, schools, property owners, event organizers, platforms, service providers, or authorities where applicable
- maintaining device security, passcodes, and account security
- reviewing recordings they care about and creating their own backups when needed
- deciding what to export or share and with whom
- ensuring the App is suitable for their intended use case and legal environment
15. Indemnity and Hold Harmless
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, users agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Life Like and its owners, operators, developers, contractors, affiliates, and service providers from and against any claims, complaints, investigations, enforcement actions, damages, judgments, penalties, fines, costs, and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of or related to unlawful, unauthorized, negligent, or non-compliant BlackBoxRecorder use or any audio captured, stored, exported, shared, or disclosed through App use.
16. Children’s Privacy
BlackBoxRecorder is not directed to children. Life Like does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
17. Your Choices
Users may:
- grant or deny permissions through device system settings
- stop recording at any time
- export or share archives only when they choose to do so
- choose, monitor, and manage any cloud folder used for archive backup
- uninstall the App to remove its local app-specific storage, subject to device operating system behavior
18. Third-Party Services
BlackBoxRecorder may rely on the following third-party services or platforms:
- Google Play or the Apple App Store for subscription billing and purchase management
- Android and iOS system services for permissions, notifications, biometric/device credential prompts, file export, sharing, and Files folder selection
- iCloud Drive, Google Drive, OneDrive, or another File Provider app if users choose one as a Premium cloud archive backup destination
These third parties may process data according to their own privacy policies.
19. Changes to This Privacy Policy
Life Like may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If material changes are made, the effective date at the top of this page will be updated.
